Blitzkrieg is a German word which literally translates to "lightening war," which was on of the tactics Hitler used to attack Poland. With the use of armored columns called panzer divisions, supported by airplanes - he brought the country down into a shuddering halt within a mere month as these panzer divisions were supported by a strike force that was made up of roughly three hundred tanks that were accompanied by forces and supplies.

Maginot Line Area
French defense system that was built along its border with Germany in anticipation of an attack. It is a line of a series of concrete and steel fortifications armed with heavy artillery. Germany went around it however from the Belgium border. By going around this line, the Germans were able to deliberatively split the Allied armies with trapping French troops and the entire English army on the beaches of Dunkirk.
FRENCH ARMINSTICE
Hitler Signing The Armistice
The French Armistice basically took place after the Battle of France (also known as the Fall of France). It began on May 10, 1940 and ended after France was forced to sign an armistice to end the violence on June 22, 1940. With this truce being signed, it permitted Germany to occupy three-fifths of its land (north and west) which meant France had to be divided in two.
